Seattle Yellow Cab (SYC) is a family-owned business and the Pacific Northwest’s largest wheelchair and regular taxi fleet. We proudly serve Seattle and King County, WA, and transport passengers to destinations throughout Washington state.
Rebranded from Seattle Taxicab to Yellow Cab in the 1920s, we are grateful to still be a part of Seattle’s growing transportation landscape. Like many other cities, we faced the challenges brought by ride-share companies but instead of succumbing to the pressure, we embraced it head-on, confident that with your support, we could not only survive but thrive. Over the years, we’ve learned, invested, evolved, and come back stronger — proud to offer a service that meets consumer demand technologically, and offers passengers and drivers better value than ride-sharing alternatives.
Today, taxis in Seattle are independently owned and operated. Drivers own their medallions, vehicles and maintain their own commercial insurance. They partner with us for dispatching and administrative services, as well as trademark usage, and pay a flat weekly fee. In return SYC drivers keep 95-100% of the earnings from every ride they service. So when you ride with SYC, you’re truly supporting a small business.
We take pride in running a company that looks out for the driver and ensures they’re fairly compensated for the important service they provide everyday. Additionally, at SYC we prioritize your safety and security by ensuring all drivers maintain the following requirements:
- Criminal Background Check (annually)
- Motor Vehicle Incident Report (annually)
- Vehicle Safety Inspection (annually)
- Certified trainings as required (e.g., wheelchair securement, defensive driving, customer service, CPR/First-aid, passenger safety, child safety, empathy, etc.)
- Commercial insurance (at all times)
- Valid licenses (i.e., driver, for-hire, Seattle business, and WA UBI if required)
